CLASS NEWS

Prep B

This week we had our annual Father's Day Pies in the Playground. What a wonderful morning it was. We all had a blast!

Class 1B

In Science this term, Year 1 have been learning about the needs of living things. To support our learning, we have been caring for mealworms in our classroom. Students have observed their life cycle closely, watching them change from mealworms into pupae and then transform into beetles. This hands-on experience has given students the opportunity to learn about the importance of food, water, air, shelter, and care for living creatures. The children have shown great responsibility and curiosity, and it has been wonderful to see their excitement as they observed the changes each day. We have also linked it to our maths lessons and made our own mealworms out of playdough and measured and compared their lengths using paper clips.

Class 2B

In Religion this term, we have been learning all about life in the time of Jesus. We have been researching different ‘I Wonder’ questions to find answers on how people travelled, dressed, worked and ate during this time. This also allowed us to work together as we researched in teams and shared our findings to the class.

Class 4B

We have had a very busy last few weeks in Grade 4.  We had a visit from the Speaker of the Queensland House of Parliament which gave us an interesting insight into how government works at that level. The presenters put on a mock session, and we may have some up-and-coming politicians here in Grade 4!
In Science, we did a variety of experiments on forces looking at gravity and resistance. We manipulated wingspan of helicopters, the weight and size of various objects with some surprising outcomes. Short video of our experiment.

Class 5B

Students in year 5 are working on a new platform to express their Science and English work.  Using AI, Adobe Express provides the user with fine skills to present their work with flair and encourages the use of a greater variety of tools to match their imaginations. At present the students are focussed on improving their skills for assessment in the coming weeks.

In Science, students have nearly completed a Unit on how animals adapt to certain environments in order to survive. Assessments will be completed in the final weeks of this term.

Parent / Teacher interviews are coming up with Mrs Drew’s listed for next week Friday 12th and Mr Mafua on Tuesday 16th in week 10. There is an option to meet with the teacher or a phone interview. Please register on Booked (PTO) on the school website. It is important that parents and teachers take advantage of this connection opportunity to ensure the best outcomes for your children and we hope to see you there.

Class 6B

In the past few weeks, students have been constructing some simple parallel circuits, drawing corresponding circuit diagrams and explaining what happened when a switch in their circuit was turned on or off. Students have also been considering the Catholic Corporal Works of Mercy: what they are, their origin in scripture (Matthew 25:31-46) and implications for us today. Students designed an A4 representing each of the 7 Corporal Works of Mercy. These are just a couple of the activities we have been busy with over the past few weeks.
