Laurie Spina Shield
Over the holidays Gareth, Logan, Oliver, Connor, Nash, Joel and Hunter travelled to Townsville to compete in the Laurie Spina Shield — a two-day rugby league carnival that brings together 78, Under-11 teams from across North Queensland. The tournament celebrates participation, fair play, and a love for the greatest game of all - rugby league.
Each of the eight pools selected one team to play an exhibition match at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, providing a chance to showcase their sportsmanship and what the Laurie Spina Shield represents. Southern Suburbs took on the Emerald Tigers in their exhibition match, finishing in a hard-fought draw — but played with passion and heart from start to finish.
Their commitment and spirit earned Southern Suburbs the honour of being named the well-deserved winners of the 2025 Laurie Spina Shield.
